Ella-Rose Miniatures creates exquisite handcrafted food miniatures – delicious-looking sweets, candies, desserts, quirky celebration cakes and luxury wedding cakes. They truly look scrumptious enough to eat, and you would be forgiven for thinking they are made from eggs and icing sugar rather than fimo and polymer clay.
Kerry Fawcett is the talented miniaturist creating these delectable delicacies. Kerry, who lives five minutes from the beautiful seaside resort of Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire began making her miniatures food when she started her first dolls house 14 years ago. Unable to find what she was looking for to stock her kitchen, she set about trying to make her own more realistic items.
"I found that it was quite therapeutic as well as being addictive," said Kerry. "Once my dolls house kitchen was fully stocked I realised I didn’t want to stop making food, so I continued and began selling it."
To begin with Kerry bought a few Angie Scarr books to learn the basics and over the years has developed and learnt new skills and techniques. "I get my inspiration from the real life bakery creations of Peggy Porschen, Miss Lola’s Bakehouse, and for festive inspiration I always turn to an American company called Trendy Tree who have the most amazing and quirky decorations."
Kerry is no stranger to making cakes, as she’s made a few real celebration cakes for family occasions and will be making her own wedding cake for her wedding that takes place two weeks after the autumn Miniatura!
Delighted that she made the decision to immerse herself in the miniature world, she added, "The miniature community is like a little extended family, everyone is so friendly and helpful."
