HIGHLIGHTS FROM AUTUMN 2011 and OTHER PAST MINIATURA SHOWS
Autumn Miniatura 2011
If you missed your visit to the Autumn Miniatura this year, see below for a few of the amazing pieces that were there. This is just a snapshot of the show, as with over 200 exhibitors, of whom over 80% are craftsmen, showing their own fantastic work it only scratches the surface of what it was like to be there. Seeing is believing at Miniatura.
Talented housemakers Barbara’s Mouldings, once again generously donated one of their buildings free of charge, to the Cancer Research UK stand. They do this at every Miniatura, and it helps to swell the funds of this worthy cause. As usual we welcomed Pat Cutforth and her band of selfless helpers who worked flat out, again for free, on the Cancer Research UK stand for the whole weekend and raised £3822.00 which goes entirely to the charity. Many thanks to all visitors and exhibitors who gave their support during the weekend.
Aidan Campbell, already well known for his miniature paintings and models, introduced a new range of ephemera in miniature, including maps, games and dressmaking patterns. Who needs Sat. Nav??
Danny Shotton, tool making expert, was besieged by customers for most of the show as usual.
Masters Miniatures Tudor setting evoked a bygone age perfectly.
Newcomer Helen Skinner, trading as Mi-Knit-Ure, stunned visitors with her exquisite knitted lace and sold so well, and took so many orders that she will have to limit her exclusive attendance at Miniatura to once a year. Regular visitors may well remember the beautiful knitted lacework of her mother, Margaret Sitch, who exhibited regularly before her retirement.
Barry Harris showed his rotating spit setting which was not for sale as Hilary has claimed it. He did however do a roaring trade with almost everything else he had brought to the show.
Members of The Miniature Needlework Society are regular guests at each Miniatura and the work of their members never fails to amaze. This covers anything which can be made with a needle, or two, or four! The stand is always manned by volunteer members of the society, so visitors can be sure that the help and advice they are given is by enthusiasts and experts. This time 16 new members joined the society.
Artist Sarah Schiff produces such extraordinary detail in her animal modelling that each one looks as if it could could stand up and walk away at any moment.
Robert Stubbs, whose Tudor houses are legendary, was making a welcome return to the Autumn show, after having spent a few years living in France.
A Touch of Class from South Africa, who also missed a year in 2010, returned to show their fabulous musical instruments.
Members of the Warley Model Train Club were exploring the links between the their hobby and ours. They are now a popular permanent feature at the show where they promote some of the many different scales used in both dolls houses and trains. Miniatura return the compliment on November 19th & 20th November at NEC to promote the dolls house hobby at the Warley Model Train Show.
John, from De-Luxe Materials spent most of the weekend demonstrating how to use his products to create scenic snow and scenic water effects which introduce thet extra bit of realism into a model.
The winner of our previous postcard competition, Mrs Tilley collected her £100.00 voucher from Bob Hopwood on her arrival, and had a great time deciding where to spend it, eventually she chose a clock from Malcolm at the Hall's Miniature Clocks stand. The winner this time is Mrs. Harwood from Yorkshire, who will receive 2 weekend tickets to the Spring 2012 show on March 17th & 18th as well as a voucher for £100.00 to spend during her visit to the show. If you would like to receive our regular pre-show postcard and have a chance to be the next winner, get in touch with us to go on our mailing list.

In Some Small Way
"We have been constant exhibitors with Miniatura for 17 years now. It's the best place to introduce new products like our latest quarter scale and micro scale house kits. Smaller scales are growing in popularity every year, and we were delighted with the response to our latest offerings. We were busy from start to finish on Saturday, and also had a pretty good day on Sunday despite the torrential rain. As long as we keep exhibiting Miniatura will be our favourite venue" . Judith Dowden, In Some Small Way
Carol Cook Miniatures
"I was very happy see so many of my old friends on my return to the show circuit. I was overwhelmed by the response from customers old and new from home and abroad." Carol Cook.
D.A.W's Rockers
"There's a romance and nostalgia around rocking horses making them a popular and constant favourite for dolls' house enthusiasts and this show was no exception." David Watton.
Nicky's Dolls & Critters
"I just wanted to drop you a line to say a huge thank you! It was only my second time exhibiting at your show and I have to say I have never had so much fun at a show before!
I was busy from the moment the doors opened to just half hour before the doors closed on the Sunday. I met some fantastic artists that I am planning to do some joint projects with and so many wonderful customers!
To have so many people in one place that share a love of all things miniature was a delight and so inspiring.
I cannot wait for the next show!"
