Barry Hipwell - An Obituary

It is with great sadness that we have heard about the death of Barry Hipwell, who was surely one of the great miniaturists of our time. As well as being gifted with an incredible talent for making miniatures, Barry also had the ability to teach others and had a larger than life personality. His unique presence at shows, such as Miniatura, where we were fortunate to have him exhibit regularly, will obviously be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathy and kindest regards to all his family.

Miniatura goes greener

We have had some great feedback about our new re-usable bags that are on sale at each of the shows. In an effort to be even greener we are trying to cut down on the amount of A World In Miniaturepaper we use as well. This has lead to the on-line newsletter that you are reading now. You can help too by either re-using your re-usable bag or bringing your own to the shows (this will save the planet AND your pocket). Another way is to go to our feedback form and enter our on-line prize draw to win one of 5 stunning books from A World In Miniature who have recently launched their new website (www.aworldinminiature.com). The museum has been open for over a year now and is already enjoying worldwide acclaim.

Phoenix and Warwick Combine

Two well established and respected miniatures businesses have joined forces. Phoenix Models have announced the acquisition of Warwick Miniatures to join the growing range of fine, quality, English made miniatures. You can see the full range at Miniatura where Warwick Miniatures will still have their usual trade show stand whilst Phoenix can be found in the public show. The organisers of Miniatura would like to echo the sentiments of Cheryl and Peter in wishing the previous owners, Jeff and Jenny Arnold, every happiness in their retirement.

Two great new online resources for miniaturists.

Artisans in Miniature has been created in order to showcase the fantastic work of the individual artisan members that together form the Artisans In Miniature association. AIM was founded in 2007 as an association for professional international artisans who create beautiful and original scale miniatures for sale to the public.

On this website you will find further information about the work of these highly talented international artisans and artists. However, please note new pages are constantly being added and there are many members who are not yet included on the site...

They have also launched a free, monthly online AIM magazine which has been written by their members and will be constantly updated with new projects, articles and regular features!

The Directory of British Miniaturists is a site promoting the excellence of british miniatures to the public on the www.

Some miniaturists have won Awards, others have been recognised in Magazine articles and various other Media forms while others have been working quietly away in the background.

The aim of the directory is to raise the profile of British miniature makers and let the buying public, shops and clubs know what is available and who can supply it. In due course the site will be extended to include almost all the information a miniature collector could want and hopes to become the number one stop for enthusiasts, not only in Britain but worldwide.
