The Painting
For several years now, John has been an Associate of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters and Gravers, and as well as making his fine miniature furniture, he is a miniature portrait artist. He has won several awards for his paintings, and works on commissions as well as selling his work through the 'Gallery' on his website. The painting here is typical of his traditional style, water colour on vellum, and framed in one of his own designed frames.
The Furniture
This Adam style bed (left) has been painted manilla and the details high-lighted in gilt. There are two pier tables and a pair of torcheres at either side of the bed, and a pair of bergere chairs. The blue floral design for the chair fabric was hand-painted by John and then printed for use on the upholstery. New French style Louis XV black lacquered commode (right); hand-painted by John with a design of birds and flowers. There are two wooden oak drawers on the front, the handles of which have been made from the interwovan design of the gilt ormolu. The top has been hand-painted in rich colours to give a faux marble effect.
